These group sessions will address some of the key mental training and mental toughness strategies that will help you be your best! All of the sessions will be recorded so if you cannot make it you will be able to tune in when it suits your schedule.

Monday December 3, 6pm PST
1. The relational/mental health aspect of being an athlete.
In the first session we will discuss a person’s relationship with sport in the context of his or her relationships with others. We will discuss how an athlete’s motivation can be connected to these relationships, how mental health challenges can impact an athlete’s performance and experience, and thoughts regarding where help can be sought for these challenges.

2. Communication between athletes and coaches
In this session we will discuss guidelines regarding the motivation of athletes, setting goals, building/maintaining trust, support through success, failure, injury, and navigating conflict.

3. Pro-active strategies for attentional “strength” and “agility” Part One
This session will be an introduction to mindfulness meditation (how, what, when, and why its used), and some different forms. These strategies will also address performance anxiety.

4. Pro-active strategies for attentional “strength” and “agility” Part Two
This session will build off of Part One – but addresses more cognitive strategies like visualization, progressive relaxation, and various thinking exercises. These strategies will also address performance anxiety.

5. The practice and necessity of listening to the body (intuition, adaptability, self-care, self-compassion).
This session will teach you how to tune in more closely to what your body is telling you.

6. Developing the Mental Performance Plan
This is the most common mental performance strategy Shannon uses. In this session I will ask athletes to consider “who” he or she wants to be, “who” he or she has already been at his or her best, and we will develop an actionable plan for you to be this person as consistently as possible – in particular when racing and training.

7. Evaluating the mental performance plan and other strategies.
This session will take a look at how we go back and evaluate all elements of the mental/ emotional side of our sporting life. We will discuss the mental performance plan in particular, but this topic can expand broader than the MPP.
