I have a bad habit of talking myself out of things when the going gets tough. An Ironman is not a small goal, and I know that I will have (many) days when I feel like giving up, but that’s simply not an option. I’m going to have to push those negative thoughts out of my head and focus on the positive ones… I am strong, Ican do this, I will be great. It’s easy for me to listen and cave into negativity, so I’ll have to really blast this message. Whether it’s a mantra that I repeat during the run, or a sticker on my aerobars, I’ll need to keep this concept front and center throughout my training and during the race. Personally, I think I’ll have a harder time mentally competing in triathlon versus physically, and here (again) is where the positivity becomes paramount. I look forward to developing this characteristic (my secret weapon).
