It’s easy to win when you are in a race with other people and you come across the line in first place. It’s easy because it’s measureable. But how can you win when nobody is watching? Technically speaking you can’t actually win when nobody else is watching or nobody else is around because if nobody else is around you are probably not in a contest or competition. The definition of winning is:
winning ˈwiniNG/ adjective
- gaining, resulting in, or relating to victory in a contest or competition.
“a winning streak”
synonyms: victorious, successful, triumphant, vanquishing, conquering, first, first-place, top, leading
But do not despair! With the use of words and sentences I will convince you how to win when nobody is watching using these three easy steps.
Step 1- Try your best
Trying your best is a form of personal winning. If you only try your best when other people are looking that is totally lame. If your efforts are dependent on whether someone has their eye on you, you are missing the whole point of sport, which is to see how good you personally can be at something independent of other people. If you try your best, you are a winner.
Step 2- Love the process
If you love the act of doing for the sake of the thing itself then you are winning at what you are doing. If you don’t like what you are doing and don’t like the process of doing it then you are doing the wrong thing and in effect you are losing. Love the process and do it for the sake of itself because that is winning.
Step 3- Celebrate small goals
You don’t have to win the world championships to be a winner although it does help if you can do this. Nothing big was ever accomplished without a whole bunch of small victories along the way. Let’s say, for example, that you do a tough training set and manage to average times that are better than you have in the past….BAM you’re winning and there may not have been anyone there to see it but who cares! I’ll tell you who cares….you should because you just won a small victory on the road to bigger ones.
You don’t have to cross the line first to be a winner (well, strictly speaking you do) but that’s not what this post is about. This post is about being a winner even when nobody else is looking- it’s about using words to show you how to be a winner without actually winning anything material and that is how you become a champion at life.
