When my grandparents immigrated to this country in 1968, they had nothing but the drive to do more, be better and find a better life.  This drive has been passed on from my grandfather, to my father to myself and one day will be transferred to my children.

To be successful in life-whether it is family, business, or triathlon you have to ‘want it’.  To ‘want something’ is to be driven to do ANYTHING it takes to reach that goal.  My ‘drive’ enables me to do things I once thought were impossible.  Don’t be afraid of your drive-challenge yourself to reach beyond what you think is possible.  Follow your drive and you will experience a level of success you never thought was possible.

What is your be word and why did you choose it?

Be Driven.  Anyone who knows me well, knows that I have very high expectations for all aspects of life.  Being Driven to me means having the motivation to meet or exceed those expectations.  I feel if you are given the opportunity to do something you should do it as you never know when you will be able to have that opportunity again.

What is your major goal for the upcoming season?

We have a lot of balls in the air in life right now, so I’m not really in a position to know what I will have the opportunity to race next week.  I do race in Texas at the end of October and hope to have a great race there and really see all of the training come together.  For the 2017 season it would be great to get on the podium in the Olympic distance races if that is all I get to race at- otherwise I would love to see a sub 11 IM if I go that route next year.

What goal did you crush last season?

I wanted to go sub 5 at Victoria last year and I did ‘crush’ that.  On top of this my great amazing Coach Thalia has really put me to work this season.  My ride was always my weakest link whereas now it is my strongest and my run has seen me go from a 46min 10 to a 42ish min 10k in the past several months- so overall lot’s of achievement and my performance across the three disciplines has become a lot more balanced.  A few weeks ago at Cultus I also came 3rd in my AG and had my first podium of the year.

What is your favourite post race craving?

I’m very rarely hungry after a race – but ice cream is never a bad thing anytime =)

What is the most ambitious thing on your life bucket list?

Starts with a K and rhymes with Mona.

If you were stranded on an island what book would you want with you?

I’m going to have to steal this one from Victoria Shannon and go with the Bible.

What is the hardest workout you have ever done?

I’ve had a couple worth noting:

1) 140km Bike to a brick 30km run in 35 degrees in Penticton in preparation for Challenge.  My lovely wife ‘supported’ me on the run by following me in a vehicle and providing fluids, ice etc and acting like a mobile aid station

2) Double brick work out before Cultus – 4:30 am before work – 40’ bike, 15’ run first round Zn2 second run zn3 – that one hurt and surprise I got to race 3 days later.

If you could have dinner with one person (living or deceased) who would it be?

I’m not really one for famous people, so I would likely point to my Nana who passed away when I was a teenager and played a strong role in raising us while my parents worked.
