Victoria Shannon

Victoria Shannonbe grateful.

Gratitude is the lens through which I choose to view the world and live my life.
I am grateful for a strong, healthy body that is capable of far more than I ever imagined.

I am grateful for the mental strength that I am often surprised to encounter in myself.
I am grateful that in my quest to get fit, I found a sport that I’m passionate about, that enriches my life, that challenges me, and makes me want to be better in every way.

When I struggle in training, a race or in life, I look at the words Be Grateful, permanently inked on my arm; it makes me be present. And it reminds me that I am exactly where I want to be.

10 Awesome Things about Victoria

What is your be word and why did you choose it?
Be Grateful.  Because on December 1, 2013 I made a conscious decision to live a grateful life and to practice gratitude daily.  That moment I chose happiness and it changed my life…and it’s also my mental focus on the long runs.

What is your major goal for the upcoming season?
I have an ambitious, scary goal of taking 86 minutes off my Ironman time at IM Canada this year…to be supported by my other primary goal of finding that inner bitch who loves the suffer on the run!

What goal did you crush last season?
In 2016 my main goal was to be the person who shows up every day and does the work with discipline, integrity and intent.  Jasper’s words of advice.  I did it for the race results, and what I got was a feeling of self-worth, a whole lot of joy and personal satisfaction in the entire process.

What is your favourite post race craving?
ALWAYS a burger (the best one ever was at 5 Guys Burgers in St. George, Utah)

What is the most ambitious thing on your life bucket list?
To spend one month totally alone in the Yukon wilderness, surviving off the land.

If you were stranded on an island what book would you want with you?
The Bible

Chocolate or Vanilla Ice Cream?

What is the hardest workout you have ever done?
A 34km run at the end of my IM build last year, on a hot hot day, trying to keep up with my friend who is faster than me…and I had overlooked the time cap in my program and went way over!

If you could have dinner with one person (living or deceased) who would it be?
Princess Diana
