Two Months of Riding, Exploring, and Adventuring: Ron & Heidi Mierau in Europe 🇪🇸🇫🇷🇦🇩🇨🇭

Ron and Heidi Mierau are in the middle of a two month stretch of riding in Europe, embracing the freedom that comes with open roads, new terrain, and no fixed script.

They’ve started in southern Spain, exploring the incredible riding in Andalucía. Based out of Málaga, they spent a few days riding on their own before linking up with friends, mixing in longer days, social rides, and some early bike packing. A two day ride into Ronda set the tone, followed by more miles through the Andalusian countryside and stops in places like Antequera and Loja.

It hasn’t all been perfect, and that is part of the experience. Ron worked through a stretch of GI issues that meant cutting one ride short, but with some patience and smart adjustments he is back riding and feeling much better. Heidi has been consistently strong, keeping the momentum going through each stage of the trip.

So far in Andalucía they have covered 623.55 kilometres and climbed 8,238 metres, a solid block of work that reflects both the terrain and the steady approach they’ve taken.

Next up is Granada, with a few days planned riding near the Sierra Nevada, before the adventure continues north. From there, the plan is to keep the wheels turning through some of Europe’s most iconic cycling regions, including Girona, the climbs of Andorra, and eventually into the high mountains of Switzerland.

This kind of trip is a great reminder that endurance sport is not always about racing or numbers. It is about consistency, adaptability, and the willingness to lean into the experience.
